What's a smile worth?

Article Abstract:

The U.K. Government is planning to cut welfare spending on incapacity benefit claimants off work due to anxiety and depression, by improving their mental health through cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). However, academics raise doubts about the effectiveness of the therapy in a fixed number of sessions, delivered by people who are not experts in the field.

'Contestability': buzzword that could open academy's doors to private interest

Northumbria University plans to hire a private provider for teaching English and this has raised alarm about the future. Study Group International will create and operate a 'Northumbria University International Study Centre' to teach some of the English Language Centre courses.

Cash crunches and 'tainted' tests make for a bleak prognosis

Article Abstract:

Nursing students are concerned that NHS cuts and suspect qualifications will harm their job prospects. In April 2006, the Royal College of Nursing warned that thousands of trainee nurses may not get jobs this year due to NHS deficits and recruitment freezes.
