When the living is wheezy

Article Abstract:

Asthma is more common today than when Hippocrates coined the term in the time of the ancient Greeks. Scientists and academics from the US, Australia, and Britain are meeting to try to find answers to why asthma has doubled in prevalence in the past 20 years. Experts believe that the western lifestyle is to blame as homes are sealed to heat them and there is decreasing air circulation leading to an accumulation of allergens in the domestic environment. Also the cleaner the population, the greater the prevalence of asthma, and dietary factors are significant.

Clinton's direct line cuts debt

Article Abstract:

The Clinton administration has achieved approval for a direct loan scheme for students, who will be able to borrow directly from their learning institution. By 1998-1999, over 60% of total new loans for students will come under this scheme, according to estimates, and supporters of the measure argue that costs will be cut due to middlemen having been eliminated. Interest rates are expected to be lower, and there will be a saving to tax payers estimated at $3.2 billion for a five year period.
