Why Japan scorns MBAs
Article Abstract:
The Japanese, who have some of the world's most successful companies, are very critical of the west's Masters in Business Administration and other postgraduate management qualifications. They advocate in-house training to lay the foundation for loyalty to the company. Qualifications like MBA are thought to promote an individualistic approach by the employee and to encourage job changing. A personnel manager for a Tokyo steel company says that new staff coming with preconceived business and management ideas are more difficult to turn into true company men and companies such as his prefer to carry out their own staff training and development.
