High-performance network and channel based storage
Article Abstract:
There is a major shift underway from centralized mainframe computers to distributed systems based on file servers and workstations that are connected over high-performance networks. Storage facilities are attached to file servers and distributed throughout the network. The technology trends leading to high-performance network-based storage are discussed. Several commercial systems and prototypes leading to a new approach to high-performance computing based on network-attached storage are described. New methods are needed to manage these complex storage hierarchies and it is time to apply a system-level perspective to storage system design. New architectures are required to break bottlenecks between the network, memory and I/O interfaces. New methods must be developed to reduce latencies in today's high-bandwidth networks.

Power spectrum estimation with partially known autocorrelation function
Article Abstract:
Using exact autocorrelation values in place of estimates at one or more lags may cause opposite effects on the variance of the nonparametric power spectrum estimator. One particular case in which the value of the function is known in all but one lags of interest is considered in detail. Mathematical computations are included as illustrative examples.
