Article Abstract:
Rex Arpachinda won the Novice Champion award as the IASCA finals and the Car Stereo Review's Rookie of the year award. The 22 year old initially wanted a system for personal use until he met Steve Wegner of Future Sound and Communication in Battle Creek, MI. Wenger designed and overhauled the system so that it would be worthy of competition.

The March 1997 Spring Break Nationals attracted more than 280 entries from all across North America. It also featured an 80-exhibitor Mobile Electronics Expo attended by 19,000 persons. Mark Eldridge won the grand prize Expert 601+ award.

The Oct 1997 USAC event hosted a record 356 sound-pressure contestants and 201 sound-quality entries. It was the tenth USAC finals, leading to predictions of the contest becoming a major spectator sport.
