Spin-wave instabilities, auto-oscillations, and chaos in yttrium-iron-garnet
Article Abstract:
Microwave field-driven spin-wave instabilities show auto-oscillations, intermittency, quasiperiodicity, period-doubling, and chaos as other nonlinear dynamic systems do. Spin waves pumped by microwave fields are extremely well-suited to the study of nonlinear dynamic phenomena. Well-known microscopic interactions can be used to calculate the nonlinear coupling parameters. The main features of the experimental observations, both in parallel and perpendicular pumping, can be explained with a two-mode model. The auto-oscillation frequency depends on the wavevector and sample dimension as well as on the relaxation rate.

Techniques for analyzing frequency selective surfaces - a review
Article Abstract:
Several different techniques for analyzing Frequency Selective Surfaces (FSSs) made up of periodic arrays of patches or apertures in a conducting screen are described. Applications for FSSs as filters in microwave and optics are examined, and the basic properties of FSSs are evaluated. Various ways of predicting the frequency response characteristics of FSSs are described, and recent research on the treatment of truncated, curved and doubly periodic screens are discussed.
