A Multiple-Aircraft Radar Simulation
Article Abstract:
The Multiple Aircraft-Radar Simulator (MARS) is an offline system used to test air traffic control (ATC) systems. The simulator creates a file of radar 'hits', aircraft picked up by the radar, measures several variables of each hit and tags them by time. This file is later used to test the ATC system which cannot distinguish the simulator data from real data. The system runs on a 32-bit Perkin-Elmer 3220 and can handle up to 350 aircraft. Because the 3220 used had no floating point hardware, execution time was slow. A run on a 3220 with floating point hardware vastly increased execution time. Numerous graphs and diagrams of flight paths, radar hit functions, and stereographic coordinate systems are included.

Exchange rate system simulation by means of vector processing
Article Abstract:
This paper presents optimal control simulations in order to evaluate the major types of exchange rate systems for a small open economy. This is done by using a macroeconometric model of the Dutch economy. The econometric models relevant for exchange rate policy evaluation contain a large number of equations. In applying optimal control techniques to such models, computational difficulties are encountered. However, these problems can be overcome if the algorithm of the control problem is reformulated to be effectively utilized on a computer with vector processing capabilities.
