A mathematical programming approach to evaluating alternative machine clusters in cellular manufacturing
Article Abstract:
The effect of the alternative starting part family/machine cell clusters in solving the mathematical programming model used for dealing with exceptional elements is analyzed. The mathematical programming model is an effective way for analyzing the important differences that alternative starting matrices can have on the total costs. Thus, the model offers valuable information necessary for practitioners to make decisions in many significant aspects of cellular manufacturing design. The implications of the findings are discussed.

A managerial perspective on aggregate planning
Article Abstract:
The Aggregate Planning (AP) model seeks to establish a minimum level for overall marginal costs in the production of a product line with seasonal sales. The model merges two production options in the level plan and the chase plan. The level plan is based primarily on setting a level smoothing inventory, while the chase plan refers to scheduled manpower increases for peak hour production. AP establishes the optimal cost standard between the two plans.

Measuring the macroeconomic performance of the Taiwanese economy
Article Abstract:
A study has been conducted to measure the macroeconomic performance of Taiwan's economy using mathematical programming techniques of efficiency measurement. Performance were measured in terms of the 'best practice' frontier and an indicator-based efficiency approach. The analysis included a comparison of the economic performance of Taiwan with the economies of 10 other Asian countries.
