A report from the automotive trenches
Article Abstract:
Tier 2 to 4 suppliers of automotive parts should implement QS-9000 to overcome the gap between their quality and expectations of tier 1 suppliers. Supplier quality assurance standards introduced by the Big Three automotive manufacturers have improved product quality. Tier 1 suppliers have increased their demands on lower-level suppliers but have not given them time to implement quality checks. The QS-9000 requirements of controled development and documentation, approval of parts by production part approval process, and review of drawings before acceptance of goods will improve quality.
