ANSkit
Article Abstract:
ANSkit allows the users to simulate artificial neural networks. Included in the kit are a user manual, two high-density floppy diskettes, Microsoft Windows graphics user-interface software, an optical mouse, a 2-volume text on parallel distributed processing, and a video cassette. The video demonstrates the system with a program for detection of bad bank-loan applicants and one for identification of enemy submarines. It will take the average user hours to install, days to run the demo and become knowledgeable with the system as a whole, and weeks to create a model. The kit will give serious users a comfortable, working-level familiarity with the field in a small fraction of the time and money otherwise spent to develop software that does as much. IBM PA-AT or compatible; 540K memory and EGA monitor. List price is $995. Write Science Applications International, 10260 Campus Point Dr., San Diego, CA 92121. Phone (619) 546-6290.

Tech*Graph*Pad
Article Abstract:
Binary Engineering's Tech*Graph*Pad is a scientific and engineering graphing program. At $275 it is more expensive than others, but is much easier to use. The program graphs data existing in Lotus 1-2-3 and ASCII files, but cannot produce bar graphs. Even novices can create and print graphs within 30 minutes. It handles linear x-y, semilog, log-log, and polar graphs. Headers, footers, various labels, etc., are all available. An IBM PC or compatible, 512K memory, and a graphics card are required. Exact
Article Abstract:
The Exact memory-resident utility program for DOS computers gives any word processor the ability to print almost any technical or mathematical expression. The program includes an on-screen font editor that allows a user to create any symbols that are not already in the program. The $475 price is high, and the money might be better spent on a word processor that incorporates many of the same functions. The publisher is Technical Support Software Inc.
