Aerospace suppliers long for unified standards

Article Abstract:

ISO-9000-based ARD 9000 is a document that aims to unify the standards used to evaluate supplier-quality requirements for the aerospace industry. This will help the industry manage its numerous suppliers and the quality of parts and subassemblies that they produce. The new scheme is a response to calls from the industry for standards consolidation to ease the burden of numerous audits. However, suppliers doubt the success of the scheme because of reasons that include the government'rule that federal manufacturing standards should also be followed in conjunction with other standards.

AS 9000 implementation: still in the wild blue yonder

Article Abstract:

Aerospace suppliers are anxiously waiting for the final implementation of AS 9000 which will replace the supplier-quality requirements of individual US aircraft contractors and subcontractors. The primary objective of the standard is to reduce auditing costs for the prime contractors and audited suppliers. In the meantime, leading contractors are using their own internal supplier-quality systems while they await the implementation of AS 9000.
