Biomechanical study on the postures in manual lifting tasks using cusp surface analysis
Article Abstract:
The biomechanical aspects of low back injury are investigated using the stochastic catastrophe theory based on the elementary cusp catastrophe. The stochastic catastrophe theory quantitatively models the risk of low back injury by considering postures in manual lifting tasks. It is shown that the low back pain caused by lifting depends on both the load and the task geometry. The bimodality in the bifurcation set of stochastic catastrophe framework is demonstrated using biomechanical data.

An extension of Rahim and Banerjee's model for a process with upper and lower specification limits
Article Abstract:
A model of Rahim and Banerjee (1988) for a process with random linear drift considers the upper and lower specification limits. Optimization of the model is made possible with the use of the Hooke and Jeeves search algorithm. The optimization aims to obtain the maximum initial setting of the process mean and the cycle length. The model regards the initial setting of the mean as a limit determined by the process that is controllable.
