Japanese companies keep spending on R&D...
Article Abstract:
R&D expenditures by Japanese firms for fiscal 1997, which ended in Mar 1998, revealed an increment of 6.1% compared to the previous year even as overall spending rose to 3.12% of GDP. The figures, which show the highest expenditures in the fields of machinery, electronics and automobile research, are seen as a sign of determination by the firms to invest in R&D despite the ongoing recession. The increase in total R&D spending comes despite a decline in R&D spending in the areas of pharmaceuticals and related businesses.
