Can single sourcing work in R&D?: benefiting from a long-term relationship with one supplier
Article Abstract:
There has been extensive research indicating that the practice of single sourcing in a manufacturing context can bring significant benefits. Single sourcing involves cutting total cost by scaling down the supplier base until there is only one supplier for a specific product. New research has considered whether single sourcing can be successful in an R&D environment. It is clear that single sourcing can facilitate technology transfer. However, the application of single sourcing is not necessarily very straightforward.
