Centrifuges push ahead in specialties
Article Abstract:
Centrifuges are increasingly emerging as substitutes to filtration systems for several specialty applications, particularly in the processing of materials that include polymers, fertilizers and pigments. Although these instruments are designed primarily to efficiently recover or remove solid particles from liquid material, centrifuges are being regarded as potential alternatives to filtration in pharmaceuticals, foods, beverages and biotech materials, specifically in applications that range from the recovery of fine particles and microorganisms to the dealcoholization of liquids. This observation is attributed to the realization of various advantages of centrifuges over mechanical filters, including their effective operation without contamination of either the product stream or effluent.

The hydrogen chase
Article Abstract:
Petroleum refiners and petrochemical plants are progressively processing heavier crudes because of dwindling reserves and higher prices for light crudes. However, the process of upgrading the feedstocks needs more- intensive hydroprocessing, resulting in a higher requirement for hydrogen in a sector that already utilizes around 80% of industrial hydrogen output. Thus, refiners and petrochemical processors are devising ways to squeeze more hydrogen gas from their operations such as by debottlenecking onsite H2 plants and gasification of heavy oil residues.
