Motorola Semiconductor Products Sector's MC13143 mixer offers a less-expensive and compact alternative to conventional radio designs. The Phoenix, AZ-based company's low-powered wideband mixer circuit has a new topology that allows for adjustments to be made to the input third-order-intercept point (IP3), a feature that permits the device to receive inputs in the range of about -5 to +20 dBm. Motorola's MC13143 mixer's novel design offers the radio designer an additional flexibility in conceptualizing the receiver's design.

Alpha Industries Inc of Woburn, MA, has developed a series of compact components to meet the increasing industry demand for compact and low-cost RF products for wireless systems. Called the HIP3 series, it includes two variable attenuators, models AV101-12 and AV102-12, that are house in low-cost, high-performance plastic packages. The plastic-packaged HIP3 variable attenuator offers a reduction in size compared to stripline hydrid attenuators using discrete diodes.
