Describing products as executable programs: variant specification in a customer-oriented environment
Article Abstract:
A study investigated a form of customer-oriented manufacturing where the assembly process serves the requirements of individual customers. The analysis developed a system for defining generic products, where the generic product characterizes all possible variants of a product through single structure. Production engineers create this structure called the generic bill of materials. Any component may be used to execute the generic product. Clients may then specify a variant of the product by selecting product attribute values.

Total quality management of a production-maintenance system: a network approach
Article Abstract:
A study expanded the organizational network approach to analyzing and addressing the fundamental barriers between organizational functional departments, and, specifically, the essential barriers between its production and maintenance departments. It developed a new total quality management-based, mathematical model of preventive-maintenance management and demonstrated that this approach can be successfully solved using a man-machine dialogue.
