Don't be deceived by chunky data
Article Abstract:
Process-behavior charts could be fail-safe if they do not have chunky data, which are characterized by significantly large differences in possible values obtained. Chunky data could be prevented by initially examining the values gathered and determining the number of possible range values between zero and the higher range limit. Generally, however, using smaller increments in the values of process-behavior charts could prevent chunky data.

A simple way to chart count data
Article Abstract:
Count-based data are based on the occurrence of discrete events and thus always consist of whole numbers. Such data include number of rejected products per lot size, non-conforming product percentages and numbers of breakdowns, blemishes, customer complaints and scrap rates. Count data differs from measurement data in two ways and has unique features which affect the way managers place such data on process-behavior charts.

Capability ratios vary
Article Abstract:
The confusion over the computation of capability numbers is eliminated when formulas are used. The various formulas for computing capability numbers may either measure different properties or may merely be different expressions of the same property. Thus, the customer has to agree first on the type of formula to be used and its appropriateness for the product before the interpretation can proceed.
