Finely chiselled plastic features

Article Abstract:

Computers are used to make all quick prototype products. Model Maker ARRK can make feature sizes to 0.1mm using its newest stereolithography machines. However, producing smaller feature sizes is difficult. Water resistant ultra violet curable epoxy resins are a new stereolithography development and Rapid Prototyping Chemicals makes some of these. The resin does not swell or go soft when exposed to moisture. Jali produces one-off items from medium density fibreboard using digital technology, such as radiator cabinets. Jali can make 120 cabinet kits each week.

Many tools make light work

Article Abstract:

There are now many computer-based aids intended to boost design output. These can bring significant benefits in engineering and research and development work. They include ADAMS, from Mechanical Dynamics, which allows users to produce virtual prototypes, the Pro/MECHANICA design optimisation software from Parametric Technology and the Cosmos/M automatic design optimisation system from Desktop Engineering.
