Forms shaped freely for optimum selling

Article Abstract:

New software has been developed to enable shapes to be formed and manipulated in any way. Form Z has been developed by Autodessys is aimed at industrial designers, and is both a surface and solid modeller. A 3D mesh can be generated and manipulated, and any solid volume can be manipulated. Arbitrary shapes can be created over which a surface following the underlying shapes can be draped. It can also be used to produce traditional 2D engineering type drawings.

Materials go back to the stone age

Article Abstract:

Developments in ceramics technology mean that they can offer cost reductions over plastics in some circumstances. The Technical Glass Company has substituted Corning's Macor machinable glass ceramic for polyetherketone in scientific instruments and for light fittings, while Rolls Royce is researching ceramic turbine blades for jet engines. Research into ceramic composites continues at Cambridge University.
