Ventilation is essential for controlling the secondary infection in hospitals caused by poor hygiene standards, overcrowding and susceptibility of people with low immunity levels. Ventilation engineers normally lack a proper understanding of ventilation requirements. Coordination between ventilation engineer and healthcare specialist is essential to establish the guidelines for ventilation quality. An addendum in the ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 62-2001 addresses the use of ventilation in cigarette smoking areas.
