How to make TQM and CI programs work
Article Abstract:
The success of a Total Quality Management (TQM) or a Continuous Improvement (CI) program depends on various factors. One of these factors involves the planning process which must be formal and structured. Another vital key to success is the use of management planning tools in creating the plan. These process development tools include an affinity diagram, an interrelationship diagram, a prioritization matrix, a matrix diagram and an activity network diagram. Furthermore, it is also important to concentrate on the customer, to reward employees for efficiency and to start primarily with pilot programs rather than large scale projects.

Building a leadership foundation through improvement
Article Abstract:
Quality improvement can be brought about in an organization only if there is commitment for the improvement from the company's top management. Unfortunately, this commitment is often lacking, thereby jeopardizing the final results. It then becomes necessary to introduce an executive learning process whereby senior managers understand what is involved in bringing about improvement and are willing to give the objective a total commitment. The learning process may include establishing a shared vision for improvement and adopting a strategy.
