ISO 9000 and QS-9000 registration issues heat up worldwide

Article Abstract:

Emphasis is shifting from ISO 9000 and QS-9000 quality accreditation requirements for government contracts to a more general quality approach throughout the world. The European Union, Australia and the US are streamlining the registration practices. However, the consultants and registrars oppose the decision and demand appropriate economical alternative approaches. The countries maintain that a mere certification fails to assure quality. The major focus is on exploring new quality initiatives and incorporating quality into regulatory and nonregulatory industrial policies.

Challenges make 1998 a very tumultuous year for international standards

Article Abstract:

International standards such as ISO 9000 may no longer exist if organizations such as the Council for Economic Priorities Accreditation Agency (CEPAA) have their way. The CEPAA has formulated its own standard and third party registration plan as the high technology industries are questioning the relevance of international standards which are too slow to keep up with developments in the high technology field.
