Quality begins and ends with data
Article Abstract:
A scientific approach to implementing total quality management involves the use of available data upon which to base information for planning and management decisions. The performance of the hip and knee replacement facility in Tamworth Base Hospital, Australia was evaluated using state and hospital in-patient statistics. The problems were diagnosed and quality improvement measures were implemented based on the statistical conclusions.

Strategic leadership for quality in health care
Article Abstract:
Total quality management which are effective in other industrial environments can be applied to health care organizations. Strategic management will enable the health sector to attain goals which include improving clinical service, and customer relations and cutting health care costs. Critical areas in health care services which concern high-level managers are also discussed.
