Innovation paths in product development: an empirical research
Article Abstract:
The results of a research, which investigated the dynamics of technological change and organizational structure in discrete-parts manufacturing firms located in the industrial area of Turin, Italy, were presented. The impact of innovation in product development practices on small and medium enterprises was analyzed on the micro-level. The results showed that exogenous determinants of innovation, design methodologies, computer-aided technologies and organizational structures interact in a fairly complex fashion and adapt themselves to a changing environment.

Concurrent specification of unit load sizes and automated guided vehicle fleet size in manufacturing system
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine and develop design specifications for automated guided vehicle systems (AGV). The study focuses on the development of an integrated approach for managing AGV unit load specification, vehicle size selection and fleet size determination. Mathematical analysis and hybrid algorithm are employed to determine problem components and solutions. Results show that planning AGV systems based on expected total manufacturing cost minimization exhibits the best optimal conditions.

Innovative output and firm size in the pharmaceutical industry
Article Abstract:
The Schumpeterian hypothesis proposes that innovative output increases with firm size. Contradictory evidence resulting from different studies, however, has prevented a conclusive acceptance of the hypothesis. New data from the pharmaceutical industry is used to reexamine the validity of the hypothesis. Results indicate clearly decreasing returns to scale for research and development for all firm sizes in the pharmaceutical industry.
