Inventory theory: new perspectives for corporate management

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the significance of the inventory theory for corporate management. The main business processes were examined. The role of information technology was then evaluated. In addition, several inventory issues were discussed, including cost optimization, waste management and demand loss. Results indicated that modern information technology supports the design of a virtual enterprise concept for the global management of business processes.

A proposed model of JIT purchasing in an integrated steel plant

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze a conceptual model for using just-in-time systems in the purchasing department of an integrated steel plant in India. Several issues were considered. These include the identification and categorization of materials and vendors, freight consolidation and item collection. Results indicated that the cost of transportation and cost of inventory increases with a rise in the number of consolidation days.

Zero inventory management: facts or fiction? Lessons from Japan

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the feasibility of zero inventory management. Eight case studies from Japan were examined. Several factors influencing the possibility of zero inventory management were also analyzed. These include geographical and infrastructure factors, technological reasons for work in process, and market concerns. Results indicated that Japanese firms have not yet realized zero inventory management.
