Japan's industry hiring more foreign researchers

Article Abstract:

Japanese companies are employing foreign researchers in the 90s to provide for an expected shortage of Japanese researchers and perpetuate Japanese economic development. Fifty per cent of the researchers are from Europe and the US and the rest from Asian countries. It is expected that companies will increase the amount of foreign researchers tenfold. Some countries have long-term visit programmes for foreigners. The UK Department of Trade and Industry is operating a system whereby engineers are able to spend up to 12 months in Japan.
