Liftable strain tester
Article Abstract:
IOtech Inc. introduces its new portable and PC-based WBK16 strain measurement system. WBK16 has a 12-bit resolution and acquisition that speeds up to 1 MHz to be used in strain testing of engines, auto chassis, and aerospace structures. The system includes an IOtech WaveBook/512 multichannel digitizer for eight strain-measurement and eight general-purpose analog input channels. The system can be expanded to a mix of 72 strain-gage and analog input channels by putting more strain gage modules on top of the WaveBook unit. The WBK16 is operated on either ac or dc power and it does not need an external power source for the strain gage. The entire system, including the WaveView software, is priced at $6,290.

True-rms hand-held DMMs work with Windows 95/NT
Article Abstract:
Tektronix Inc. has unveiled a new series of TX-DMMs, with the TX1, TX3, and the WSTRM package. TX1 is a basic digital multimeter (DMM), while the TX3 is more advances with a built-in digital thermometer and 4--20-mA process-loop measurements. Both TX1 and TX3 have an easy-to-use interface, a large digital readout, and compatibility with Microsoft Corp.'s Windows 95/NT operating systems. The WSTRM package is an option for TX1 and TX3, with an optically isolated PC-interface cable and WaveStar for Meters software. WSTRM transforms TX-DMM into a virtual tool and data acquisition system through its remote capabilities. The TX1 is priced at $275; the TX3 at $325; and the WSTRM add-on sells for $149.

Seven-plus-digit meter resolves a nanovolt
Article Abstract:
Keithley Instruments Inc. introduces its new nanovoltmeter, the Model 2182, with seven-digit readings. The Model 2182's seven-digit readings cover five measurement ranges, 10mV, 100mV, 1 V, 10 V, and 100 V full scale. The latest product has a Delta mode for enhanced accuracy that lessens the resistance measurement uncertainty because of thermal emfs and other offsets. The Model 2182's other features include a generation of current-voltage curves without a separate computer controller, and a suite of statistical functions. The product is being sold for $2,495.
