Several equipment and supplies for the manufacturing sector are presented. These include Ametek Test and Calibration Instruments' all-metal motorized test stand, NDT Systems' airborne ultrasonic detector, Taylor Hobson Inc's digital readout gaging probe, Flexbar Machine Corp's complete turnkey measurement and inspection system and Ahlegian Precision's comparator charts and scales. Other products of interest to manufacturers include Glenbrook Technologies Inc's X-ray inspection systems, Extech Instruments' data-logging light meter and Inframetrics Inc's thermographic cameras.

A group of manufacturing executives coming from companies belonging to the 'Best of the Best' were assembled by Arthur D. Little to discussissues and opportunities facing manufacturing executives and the steps to be taken to realize the vision of a successful manufacturing company by 2005. Some issues which were discussed included balancing investments in people and technology to optimize value.

Measuring bent tubes

Article Abstract:

Technical Arts Corp has developed a technique that accurately measures bent tubes. The technique, which is a combination of laser-scanning technology and data analysis, accurately measures a tube and then calculates bend correction factors before it is downloaded to the tube-bending machine. The technique effectively reduces system inefficiencies while boosting product efficiency.
