Measurement for the long haul
Article Abstract:
Cummins Engine Co Inc underscores the development of highly-reliable diesel fuel injectors as competition in the industry intensifies. According to Cummins officials, the move is partly motivated by government efforts to tighten federal standards on diesel-emissions. One of the main difficulties the company would have to face in realizing its goal is the creation of fuel injectors that have higher tolerance capabilities. Officials claim that these type of injectors can only be made through accurate measurement data and quality development techniques.

Tensile-testing robot saves labor
Article Abstract:
Tinius Olsen Testing Machine Co Inc developed a tensile-testing robot for Spokane, WA-based Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corp, a manufacturer of aluminum stock for beverage cans and sheet and plate aluminum for the aeronautic and automotive industries. The robotic system, named Jake, eliminated the laborious work of performing tensile tests, clearing away broken samples and loading new ones. Some improvements to the original factory design of the robot were made since it was purchased in the spring of 1997.
