Synthetic rubber industry sprouts from stolen seeds
Article Abstract:
The production of natural rubber moved from Brazil to Asian countries via smuggled seeds in the last years of the nineteenth century. US and German rubber companies started producing synthetic rubber just in time for World War II, when trade with Asia was curtailed.
