Article Abstract:
Java technology is playing an increasingly important role as companies find themselves pressured to merge their enterprise computing arrangements with their industrial control infrastructures in a process referred to as enterprise integration. Until recently, commercial computing was generally dismissed as inadequate for satisfying the needs of a factory environment. Java technology, implemented in software and in hardware, changes the situation. Commercial computing is now regarded as viable for use in industrial control applications.
