Multivariate analysis model for machine-part cell formation problem in group technology
Article Abstract:
Optimal machine cells and part families are formed in a group technology setting using a multivariate analysis framework. The proposed algorithm is implemented in three stages, the first of which uses the double centering matrix for similarity of machines and parts as similarity coefficient matrix. A quantification model is utilized to determine the eigenvalues and eigenvectors on the double centering matrix. It is shown that machine cells and part families can be easily generated using cluster analysis on those values.

Rescheduling and optimization of schedules considering machine failures
Article Abstract:
A production scheduling approach that minimizes machine failures based on a robust function is proposed. The algorithm determines the trigger value of a disturbance when a machine failure arises at a certain period of time, with the remaining jobs rescheduled if the corresponding downtime of a failure at time t is higher than the trigger value. It is suggested that an adjusted schedule is optimal for all downtimes greater than zero after a machine failure occurs at time t.

Manufacturing systems with machine vacations, arbitrary topology and finite buggers
Article Abstract:
An approximation model is derived to determine the throughput of a queueing network with limited buffer capacity and arbitrary topology wherein machine vacations interrupt services. The model decomposes the system into a set of individual nodes and then expands each node. Simulations were also conducted to verify the results of the model. Good agreement was observed between simulation and model results.
