Article Abstract:

The first annual Chem-E-Car Competition at the 2000 Annual Meeting of the American Inst. of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in 11/00 is discussed. Twelve colleges and universities sent teams of undergraduate chemical engineering students, who had made vehicles the size of a shoe box and powered by chemical reactions. Materials were to be from a standard chemical stockroom with some help from the metal shop. CDs were popular (cheap) wheel choices.
