Preserving the Integrity of the Medium: A Method of Measuring Visual and Auditory Comprehension of Electronic Media
Article Abstract:
It has been established for some time that the nature of the medium influences the information presented in that medium. In today's society, more children are receiving information via the electronic media - television or microcomputers. In order to study learning in the electronic media, it is necessary to develop assessment techniques which respect the integrity of the media. Two techniques have been developed to assess the visual and auditory comprehension of the electronic media. The scores resulting from use of these techniques compare favorably with reading comprehension scores.

What, Where and Whence: Means for Improving Electronic Data Access
Article Abstract:
Casual users of current retrieval systems, such as Viewdata, often have difficulty in finding what they want. That is, they tend to get lost in the retrieval network. An experimental set-up which aims at avoiding this drawback is presented. This is done by making the selection process less sequential, by visualizing the retrieval structure and by recording the user's choices. Three displays correspond to the above: the 'WHERE', 'WHAT' and 'WHENCE' displays. These are constantly shown to the user.
