Prevent pollution in batch processes

Article Abstract:

Manufacturers of small-volume, high-value products such as pharmaceuticals and specialty chemicals typically use batch processes. Batch operations, however, usually generate high amounts of waste per unit of product. Techniques and technologies that can be used to reduce waste generation at the source in batch processes are suggested. The suggestions include techniques for reactor charging, operation, discharging and cleaning and how to model batch processes.

Batch vs. inline mixing

Article Abstract:

Different factors such as viscosity and vessel size increase could slow overall mixing for top-en tering rotor-stator mixers which is operated in batch mode . It is simple to retrofit an existing tank by construct ing a pump-around loop with an inline rotor-stator mixer.

How to scale-up mixing processes in non-Newtonian fluids

Article Abstract:

The behavior of non-Newtonian fluids is discussed here. The use of open-turbine impellers and close-clearance impellers in the mixing process is described.
