Reform, reap hydrogen, and restrain carbon monoxide

Article Abstract:

James Dumesic, chemical engineering professor and Rupali Davda, graduate student, at the University of Wisconsin, have developed a process called ultra-shift, which increases the initial aqueous-phase reforming process to convert compounds derived from biomass into hydrogen rich streams containing carbon monoxide (CO) concentration as low as 60 ppm. Minimization for CO in the reformate gas can be achieved by raising the reactor temperature and increasing the partial pressure of water.

Combined cycle technology takes NOx to lower levels

Article Abstract:

Reduction in emissions of nitrous oxides (NOx) by 33 %, along with reduction in emissions of carbon monoxide, unburned hydrocarbons, and volatile organic compounds, will be achieved through the combined cycle power plant (CCPP) developed by Novel Edge Technologies LLC. The duct burner system (DBS) increases the efficiency of the steam cycle, so that the same power output can be achieved with fewer gas turbines, which accounts for reduction in NOx emissions.
