Selecting hazard assessment and communications techniques

Article Abstract:

The selection of worst-case scenario (WCS) analysis techniques to be used in the EPA's Risk Management Program (RMP) can be done through a multilevel approach. The method is based on good science to avoid unrealistic estimates of the potential impact distance for the WCS and is acceptable to a broad range of RMP shareholders. On the other hand, a proactive communication plan is necessary for the success of an RMP strategy. Such a plan can be arrived by considering issues such as goals and objectives; stakeholders; communication tools; and roles and responsibilities.

Make storage tanks comply with EPA regulations

Article Abstract:

Underground tanks for chemical storage are covered by EPA regulations. These rules go into effect on Dec 22, 1998. To be in compliance with EPA rules, companies must put in place an approved method of leak detection, meet spill and overfill prevention requirements, install corrosion prevention systems and have secondary containment for tanks storing hazardous materials or any mixtures of such substances and petroleum.
