Smart cars, roads mean big bucks
Article Abstract:
Sophisticated electronic equipment that are designed to make automobile driving more energy efficient, safer, more economical and ecologically-sound, are increasingly being procured and deployed in the US. A recent study by the Freedonia Group Inc., forecasts that sales of infrastructure products, such as video-surveillance equipment sensors embedded in thoroughfares, and of in-vehicle products such as navigation/information systems and heads-up displays, will expand by more than 500% and 700% per year, respectively, to reach $2.6 billion and $1.5 billion by year 2002. These two categories compose the so-called intelligent transportation systems (ITS), which are enjoying considerable growth due to requirements for safety and efficient navigation.

Changing times challenge the crystal industry
Article Abstract:
The crystal industry has come up with new ways of manufacturing, packaging and pricing resonators and oscillators to cope up with the changing demands of the wireless and wired communications technologies. For instance, in the manufacture of crystals, the crystal industry is now manufacturing crystals with a relatively new process known as inverted mesa. This process enables crystal makers to produce quality crystals and oscillators that run at higher frequencies than earlier required. Crystal makers also downsized the crystal-oscillator package to meet certain needs of communications and computer technologies.
