The automobile industry is putting pressure on the plastics moulding sector as they try to reduce their supplier counts. However more companies are entering areas of the plastics moulding market leading to increased selection for car manufacturers. Some companies are making slight design modifications to reduce manufacturing costs and others are extending their multi-shot moulding capabilities to improve product deisgn and quality, and reduce costs.

Researchers at Germany's Fraunhofer Institut for Chemical Technology have created a new way of making metal-filled plastics. This technique involves moulding the plastic within magnetic fields, forming a more ordered array of filler metals.
