Space Squeezes Create New Headquarters

Article Abstract:

Three organizations have relocated and been faced with the problems of designing new office facilities. The National Paper Trade Association fled Manhattan's escalating rents to a 3,300 square- foot suburban office and kept within its $42,000 budget by refurbishing ten-year old furniture. MEDIQ, a health care management company, rehabilitated a former postal distribution center, including the installation of forty planting beds with skylights. Chemical Bank of New York established its world headquarters in midtown Manhattan occupying 800,000 square feet on fourteen floors. Much planning by division representatives with the architects preceeded this venture. Many office designs are pictured.

The importance of following GD&T specifications

Article Abstract:

A simulation study of the effects of not following Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) specifications during the inspection of manufactured parts shows that ignoring the recommended positioning sequence and features lowered the parts approval ratio from 99% to 20%. The study also showed that increasing or decreasing profile tolerances had no effect on acceptance when GD&T was correctly followed. GD&T significantly reduces the impact of individual variation on final assembly, and ignoring it may create a false picture of the fabrication process.
