Article Abstract:

Southside Hospital, a not-for-profit, community hospital in Bay Shore, New York, has reduced test turnaround time from 68 hours to an average of 32 hours with the help of Six Sigma. The sigma level for stress test turnaround has improved due to the use of quality tools including critical to quality trees, process maps and a pay-off matrix.

Six Sigma in metaphor: heresy or holy writ?

The nature and future of Six Sigma is detailed and many of the tools and approaches used in it are familiar ones, with quality function deployment, benchmarking, failure mode and effects analysis and designed experiments prominent among them. It varies dramatically across the quality profession and from person to person.
