Vanes vanguish vapor maldistribution

Article Abstract:

Engineers of Koch Engineering Company Inc have developed, patented and commercialized simple, yet effective devices that significantly improve the horizontal distribution of vapor in mass transfer or heat exchange columns. The engineers discovered that guide vanes, or vertical strips attached to the inner wall of the column or the inner wall of a vapor distribution horn, can enhance vapor and liquid interaction in the columns and can improve product quantity and quality.

Missile technology speeds chemical screening

Article Abstract:

A group of researchers has developed an instrument which promises to dramatically accelerate the search for new catalysts by speeding up the analysis of samples used in combinatorial chemistry and combinatorial materials science. The heart of the 'rapid scan Fourier transform infrared imaging system' is a declassified infrared technology used in heat-seeking missiles, integrated with an optical design constructed through the use of infrared optical lenses.
