Waste not, want not
Article Abstract:
The concept of recycle and reuse needs to be more widespread to prevent the fast growing waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) from occupying landfill space, contamination and utilizes valuable waste management resources. The 2003 WEEE European Directive, together with Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive is a major effort to reduce the negative impact on the environment and conserve natural resources. The cost for the first yearEs implementation of this directive in the UK alone is estimated at 2 billion pounds and manufacturers will have to share the recycling costs.

Tracking faults
Article Abstract:
The FTR Faultracker from Laplace Instruments has been designed to make faultfinding and diagnostics of electrical systems simpler, and easier using a new approach. The device monitors, displays and records 16 points within an electrical system, and eliminates the need to be close to live hazardous connections. The system sate can be observed immediately, each input is identified and labeled and intermittent faults isolated. No specialist knowledge is required to use the Faultracker, which can work on an internal battery for up to 50 days and has a mains power adapter.
