A clean break
Article Abstract:
The drycleaning process makes use of a highly toxic and dangerous solvent called perchloroethylene (PERC). Non-toxic water-based clothes cleaning methods are being promoted as alternatives to the chemical-based drycleaning process. Wetcleaning involves washing with water under more controlled conditions of temperature, agitation, type of detergent and drying. Despite the contentious issue of PERC, an agreement between Greenpeace and the dry clean industry promises advancements in wetcleaning to protect both the environment and public health.

Clarification of clean-bed filtration models
Article Abstract:
Comments on B.E. Logan et al.'s clarification on the proper application of the Yao model, the pore velocity model, the Yao-Habibian model and the Rajagopalan and Tien model are presented. Logan et al. provided a dispersed flow mathematical model for clean-bed filter to show the effect of longitudinal dispersion on the particle retention. A steady-state solution model for determining the effect of longitudinal dispersion on the particle retention in clean-bed filter is presented.
