A method for designing detection monitoring networks in layered aquifers with non-uniform flow
Article Abstract:
Standard integer programming methods solve the problem of designing detection monitoring networks applicable to layered aquifers, non-uniform groundwater flow, and compliance boundaries that are oblique to the directions of groundwater flow. Numerical modeling of containment transport is used to compute parameters for determining detection efficiencies of alternative monitoring transect. In each layer, the model identifies monitoring sites where defenses to prevent cross-boundary contamination should be established.
