Density-dependent reproductive output in relation to a drastically varying food supply: Getting the density measure right

Article Abstract:

The hypothesis that if the variation in a limiting resource is not taken into account in the density measure this may lead to erroneous conclusions about the density-dependence of demographic variables is tested. The result showed that the inclusion of limiting environmental variables into the density measure might drastically influence the conclusion drawn concerning the density-dependence of important demographic variables.

Species richness of moss landscapes unaffected by short-term fragmentation

Article Abstract:

Animal populations in adjoining habitat patches are affected by the habitat fragmentation and varying corridor length and width due to varying migration rates. The use of corridors in reducing species extinction during extreme environmental conditions is discussed.

Slow response to strong disturbance in an insect population with a temporal refuge

Article Abstract:

The extent to which perturbations are modulated and delayed in population systems is a crucial issue of considerable theoretical and practical interest. Response lags are very long even in populations of apparently short-lived animals.
