Effects of ecological information on judgments about scenic impacts of timber harvest

Article Abstract:

The proper preparation and targeting of informational ecosystem messages is necessary to influence the public opinion regarding ecosystem management. A use of informational ecosystem messages reveals that they affect judgments about commercially thinned and clear cut stands on timber harvests. Different views about the same stand produced different ratings. Office workers who heard the message rated the ecosystem management conditions higher than the university students. The study shows that humans assess their environment on the basis of their feelings and perceptions of truth.
