Environmental regulation and costs of information: some indications from Greek industry

Article Abstract:

Indirect costs of implementation such as informational costs are a negligible factor in environmental policy appraisals in the field of air pollution abatement. A survey of the implementation costs of current environmental policies in Greece reveals the low indirect costs of industrial firms as compared to their direct costs. The transactional and organizational costs of monitoring and compliance were generally insignificant. The Economic Incentive Schemes are expected to initiate an overall lower implementation cost in environmental abatement.
