Eutrophication models of the future: environmental engineers must look beyond their traditional approaches to solve environmental problems in the coming century

Article Abstract:

A group of prominent environmental engineers met in Jan 1998 to discuss the most important environmental problems which they will have to address in the coming years. The major goals of environmental engineering have remained constant. The field tries to maintain an environment in which public health and ecosystems are not adversely affected by pollutants. A major issue which has to be determined is the long-term effects of environmental contaminants. Environmental engineers should be knowledgeable about the use of new tools which will help them propose solutions to environmental problems.

Eutrophication models of the future

Article Abstract:

Advances incorporating the useful features of existing systems is the direction that must be taken by eotrophic modeling. Thus, the newer models that will be developed must include quantitative computations of living resources such as animal and plant systems. The development of new eutrophic models also necessitates reevaluation of concepts and assumptions. Eutrophic models of the future will be more versatile, linking load management actions and high trophic level effects.
